Tata Communications Ltd. (500483.BY) may make a bid for telecom company Cable & Wireless Worldwide PLC (CW.LN), the Times of India reported Thursday, citing unidentified people aware of the matter.
The Tata Group company may be vying with Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.LN) for the potential acquisition, the report added.
The deal would be significant for Tata Communications, providing the Indian company a larger footprint in the voice and data carrier businesses as well as in the undersea cable network segment, the newspaper reported.
Last month, Vodafone confirmed that it is in the very early stages of evaluating the merits of a potential offer for Cable & Wireless.
