Sybase,
Inc. today announced that in a recent report, Worldwide Mobile
Device Management Enterprise 2008-2012 Forecast and 2007 Vendor
Shares (IDC # 215219, December 2008), leading IT market research
advisory firm IDC recognized Sybase iAnywhere as the leader in mobile
device management enterprise software for the seventh consecutive year.
Sybase iAnywhere achieved the highest revenues and market share in a top
16 list of companies that make up almost 90 percent of the market and
includes large systems management vendors, mobility companies, and
pure-play MDM vendors.
“In 2008, IDC observed MDM vendors adding advanced security
capabilities, such as full disk encryption, antivirus and firewall, that
support the core value propositions for enterprises – IT control, policy
enforcement and regulatory compliance,” said Sean Ryan, Research
Analyst, Mobile Enterprise, IDC. “The lines between mobile management
and security are further being blurred. As more enterprises evaluate MDM
solutions, it will be important to find an offering that provides
comprehensive management and security capabilities for various mobile
infrastructures and device types.”
IDC forecasted that the worldwide market for MDM enterprise software
will grow from $243.8 million in 2007 to $364.7 million in 2012 at a
CAGR of 8.4%. As defined by IDC, the Mobile Device Management Enterprise
software provides standard features found in all desktop administration
solutions, such as maintaining PC hardware and software inventories,
performing software distribution, managing antivirus scan files and
enabling remote control for systems diagnostics. In addition, MDM
Enterprise solutions also include advanced functions that address the
needs of mobile and wireless users, such as mobile security, support for
offline and over-the-air wireless synchronization, and back up and
recovery capabilities.
“We are extremely pleased that Sybase iAnywhere is recognized by IDC as
the leading MDM provider for the seventh consecutive year," said Terry
Stepien, president, Sybase iAnywhere. “Mobile device management and
security continue to be a top priority of our customers and key focus
area for us as a company. In addition, in 2009 we will continue to
demonstrate our leadership in mobility by offering customers the
industry’s most comprehensive, robust mobile enterprise application
platform featuring our best-in-class device management and security.”
