Providing further evidence of the company’s continuing growth within the
expanding analytics and data warehouse (DW) software market, Sybase,
Inc. today announced that in a recent report, titled Worldwide Business
Analytics Software 2008-2012 Forecast and 2007 Vendor Shares (IDC
#214904, November 2008), IT market research advisory firm IDC released
figures that placed Sybase as an industry leading vendor in revenue
growth for the business analytics software market for 2007.
The IDC figures reveal Sybase grew its revenue in worldwide business
analytics software revenue, which includes data warehouse platform
software, from $104 million in 2006 to $148 million in 2007, an increase
of 41.7 percent. The company’s growth rate substantially outpaced the
rate of increase for the expanding overall business analytics software
market as a whole, which grew 12.7% to reach $22.1 billion for the
worldwide market.
“The future of the data warehouse platform software market remains
bright. As various business intelligence (BI) and analytics projects
remained high on the priority lists of organizations of all sizes, the
demand for DW platform software to support these BI and analytics
projects has continued to grow,” said Dan Vesset, program vice president
of IDC's business analytics research. “Although there are already over
1,300 customers of Sybase® IQ, the products’ market penetration is still
much lower than that for Sybase Adaptive Server® Enterprise database,
providing the company with an opportunity to further expand sales of IQ
into its own user base as well as into net new accounts.”
The current IDC report reinforces the firm’s previous analysis that
Sybase continues to develop a leadership position in the data
warehousing market. A recent IDC report (Worldwide Data Warehouse
Platform Software 2007 Vendor Shares; IDC #213671, August 2008) showed
that Sybase grew its DW platform software revenue by 46 percent to $138
million. The increase was driven by a 77 percent growth rate for the
Sybase IQ column-based analytics server and the Sybase Analytic
Appliance, which combines best-of-breed products including Sybase IQ,
PowerDesigner® and Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) solutions.
According to IDC, the worldwide business analytics software market is
expected to continue to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.7%
over the next five years. The continued upward trend will be driven by
an increased awareness of the potential benefits of business
intelligence technology to affect organizational performance and
competitiveness, leading to a broader shift in decision-making power for
business intelligence and analytics technology purchases from IT to
business. IDC is also expecting continued growth in the packaged
performance management applications market, which is likely to serve as
a driver for the growth of the data warehousing market.
“Smart businesses of all kinds are increasingly relying on Sybase IQ’s
column-based approach to power high-quality, timely data analysis to win
new customers and grow revenue in today’s competitive world,” said Dan
Lahl, director of Sybase Intelligent Enterprise Solutions. “As our
customers demand analytics solutions that deliver top line business
results through faster and better answers to more knowledge workers in
the areas of mission-critical business intelligence, enterprise data
warehousing and Key Performance Indicators, Sybase will continue to
respond with innovative, high-performance enterprise analytics and data
warehousing products that deliver dramatically faster results at a lower
total cost of ownership.”
