Sybase 365 - a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY) – the global leader in mobile messaging services, and Belgacom International Carrier Services (Belgacom ICS) today announced a formal GRX peering agreement for a data roaming point in Singapore. The agreement was made in recognition of increasing GPRS traffic and GSM usage throughout the Asia-Pacific region. It is the first peering agreement in Singapore of two global GRX providers. “Currently, all GRX networks peer in Amsterdam. Utilizing a new peering point in Singapore significantly reduces the distances that roaming data traffic has to cover when travelling between two mobile operator networks in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Patrick George, vice president, marketing & product management, Belgacom ICS. “For our operator customers’ subscribers, this will mean faster and more reliable data connectivity while roaming in the region. This is noticeable, for instance, through much more responsive web browsing and quicker email exchange.” Building on the 2007 SMS peering agreement between the world’s two largest SMS hub providers, today’s initiative is another key milestone for Sybase 365 and Belgacom ICS. This new GRX peering will enable their respective GRX operator customers to exchange mobile data regionally and internationally, providing an excellent alternative to local GRX providers, with a much stronger capacity at a global level. “For mobile operators, a reliable, high quality end-user experience results in high ARPU and ensures customer retention and loyalty,” said Marty Beard, president, Sybase 365. “As GRX networks evolve into Mobile IP, utilizing this peering point in Singapore will make it possible for us to offer IPX-based services between our operator customers in the region helping them further grow their business.”   For more information, visit Sybase 365 during:     AfricaCom, Cape Town Mobile Asia Congress, Macau International Convention Centre Venetian Hotel November 18-19 November 18-20 Stand # B28 Stand # F55   About Belgacom ICS Belgacom International Carrier Services S.A./NV (Belgacom ICS) is a leading global carrier of voice, data and value added services to more than 500 wireless, wireline and service providers through sales offices in Brussels, Bern, Dubai, Singapore and New York.
