Sunoco Logistics Partners LP (SXL) said the Maumee Pipeline running from Lima, Ohio to Samaria, Mich. closed late Wednesday and remains shut.
The pipeline was shut at 5 p.m. Wednesday after crude oil was released from the line in Cygnet, Ohio.
At 11:05 a.m. Thursday the company stopped the leak, according to Thomas Golembeski, a spokesman for Sunoco, which operates the line. Efforts to clean up the spill are underway, Golembeski said. The exact cause of the release remains under investigation, he said.
The pipeline carries 142,000 barrels a day of crude oil.
Golembeski could not immediately specify which refineries the pipeline serves. However, Sunoco Inc.'s (SUN) Toledo refinery continued to operate normally, said a person familiar with that plant. A Husky Energy Inc. (HSE.T) spokesman said the company's refinery in Lima, Ohio was not impacted by the shutdown.
