LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- CES Booth #14200 -- Sony is blurring the lines between form and function with its new line of high-end headphones that delivers crisp audio in a full range of models. These headphones not only have the latest in audio technology, but also sport elegant designs that are sure to enhance any portable entertainment device or home theater system. "Sony holds the highest market share with eight out of the top 10 selling headphones in the industry," said Jim Leahey, general manager of peripherals and enhancements at Sony Electronics. "These latest offerings expand on our selection to provide superb sound quality and fashionable designs in critical growth areas of the market." A Better Bud Powerful yet discreet, the MDR-EX90LP model is able to reproduce studio monitor headphone quality in a small, elegant, ear bud style. The buds are encased in a special aluminum housing that minimizes unnecessary vibration. By modifying the highly successful EX series design to a new structure with larger 13.5mm driver units, this model achieves improved musical purity and a wider dynamic range. Soft, silicone rubber ear buds and an off-set acoustic chamber for the drivers provide a stable and comfortable fit in the ear. The ear buds come comes with three different size earpieces to adjust to various ear sizes. They are also supplied with a stylish leather case and will be available in April for about $100. Wireless Digital Surround Sound Audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts who demand outstanding sound quality and optimal convenience will appreciate Sony's new MDR-DS6000 RF wireless surround sound headphones that feature an industry-leading 2.4GHz of digital transmission. These wireless headphones are capable of creating the kind of multi-channel surround sound fields found in theaters through the fusion of audio analysis, digital signal processing and transducer technologies to produce VPT Virtual Phones Technology(R). With a transmission range of up to 95 feet, the headphones make it easy to be entertained without being tied to the couch. Additional versatility is provided through an automatic tuning feature, which picks up the strongest radio frequency for a cleaner listening experience. It also has a specially-designed, powerful, high-definition driver that achieves wider frequency response and remarkable sound reproduction up to 80KHz. Reversible ear cups for single-side monitoring let vocalists and spin-masters hear external surrounding sounds naturally, while simultaneously listening through one side of the headphones. A gold-plated stereo Unimatch(R) plug adapter with built-in self-cleaning permits use with standard 1/4" jacks on hi-fi components or stereo mini jacks on portable music players, while gold plating maximizes contact efficiency to help prevent sound deterioration. The new studio monitor headphones will be available in April for about $300. Pack and Play Designed for comfort-seeking jetsetters, the MDR-710LP headphones combine a conventional over-the-head style with unexpected portability and sound quality. This cushioned, closed-type model sits nicely on the ear and beautifully reproduces bass and treble notes through its potent 30 mm driver and neodymium magnets.
