Oregon’s Largest Volunteer Expo Celebrates Five Years in Pioneer Courthouse Square

On Friday, September 13, 2013, Oregon’s longest running and largest volunteer expo returns to Pioneer Square for its fifth year! The Standard’s Volunteer Expo brings more than 120 nonprofits together in Pioneer Square so that they can connect with thousands of Oregonians eager to make a difference in their community. It’s a one-of-a-kind event in Portland, and it’s free to the public!

Nonprofit representatives will be at the Expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer questions and provide information about volunteer and advocacy opportunities. A wide range of community-based organizations will be on hand so that attendees can find service and donation opportunities that match their skills and interests.

“Hosting five consecutive years of the Volunteer Expo at Pioneer Square has been an incredible experience for The Standard and our employees,” said Greg Ness, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard. “Nonprofits have an invaluable impact on our community, and the connections made at this event allow these community-based organizations to provide programs and services that might otherwise have to be reduced or eliminated.”

In partnership with New Avenues for Youth, Ben & Jerry’s PartnerShop Scoop Shop is offering a free scoop of ice cream to attendees who connect with five or more nonprofits at the Expo. Just grab a Connect Card at the event and collect stamps on it as you visit the nonprofit booths. Those who collect at least five stamps can redeem them for one free scoop of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream!

The Volunteer Expo kicks off The Standard’s annual Employee Giving Campaign. The Campaign, which takes place September 9 - 27, encourages employees of The Standard to support schools and nonprofit organizations of their choosing. The Standard matches those contributions up to $5,000 per employee. Last year, employees raised more than $1.7 million (including The Standard’s dollar-for-dollar match), impacting more than 1,100 organizations.

The 2013 Volunteer Expo takes place Friday, September 13, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 SW Sixth Avenue. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Learn more at www.standard.com/volunteer.
