Shares of power-plant operators rose as Treasury yields remained under pressure and trade-war fears boosted defensive, yield-paying areas of the market. The utility sector was among the strongest among the 11 Standard & Poor's 500 sectors during the first half of the year, as traders unwound bets that the sector would suffer because of anticipated rate increases. Utility operator Scana filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the constitutionality of a new South Carolina law that would cut electricity rates.
