Sibanye-Stillwater Ltd. (SBGL) has suspended all night shifts at its South Africa gold operations after an employee was killed and others were seriously injured during the course of strike action.
On Monday the South African gold-and-platinum-mining company, which formed when Sibanye Gold Ltd. (SGL.JO) bought U.S. company Stillwater Mining Co., said it had received notice that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union would begin a strike from the evening shift of Nov. 21.
The strike is part of a continuing pay dispute. The company announced last week that it had successfully reached a pay deal with three other South African unions regarding pay and conditions.
Sibanye said it condemns the use of violence and that acts of intimidation will be investigated.
While night shifts have been suspended, the company said day shifts will continue.
