The U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority said Monday that it will refer the acquisition of Roper Technologies Inc.'s (ROP) Gatan business by Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (TMO) to a phase two investigation.
The monopoly watchdog said it was concerned that should the $925 million deal go through, it would result in a substantial lessening of competition in the supply of parts to manufacturers of electron microscopes in the U.K.
The CMA said it intends to report the result of its investigation by June 23.
