Rogers Communications Reacts to Industry Canada Direction

TORONTO, June 13  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rogers supports much of the Telecom Policy Report and the direction from that report. We support the Government's efforts to put their own stamp on Canadian Telecom Policy.

While Rogers understands the basic principles behind the Direction, it is very important for Canadian consumers and businesses that the CRTC does not deregulate the phone market while Bell and TELUS continue to exercise market power and enjoy dominance with market shares above 92%.

Phil Lind, Vice-Chairman of Rogers Communications said: "We do not believe that the Government intends this Direction to mean a return to monopoly provision of local telephone service. We will urge the CRTC and policy makers to allow competition to develop in this market."
