Foot Locker Donates More Than 4,000 Pairs of Athletic Shoes & Socks
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of underprivileged children on Los Angeles' "new and improved" Skid Row will be getting their first pair of brand new athletic shoes at the Fred Jordan Mission's 18th Annual Back-to-School New Clothing Giveaway, as part of a unique partnership between Foot Locker and the Mission. The 18th Annual Free Giveaway will be held at the Fred Jordan Mission located at 445 Towne Avenue on Skid Row beginning at 9:00am. More than 150 caring volunteers will distribute the donated clothing and school supplies to impoverished children.
Skid Row will be transformed into a huge Foot Locker store with more than 60 Foot Locker associates ensuring that each child is custom-fitted with the perfect size shoes. Foot Locker, the world's largest athletic specialty retailer, will donate athletic shoes and socks to outfit more than 4,000 children.
In the past 18 years, the Mission's legendary Back-to-School New Clothing Giveaway for children has transformed the lives of nearly 100,000 needy children. Several children will be modeling their new athletic shoes, socks, and apparel throughout the day on a special runway, demonstrating their gratitude in fun and creative ways. In the same way that Skid Row is getting a makeover after all of these years, so too are these children.
From the first Back-to-School Giveaway in 1988, Foot Locker has worked side-by-side with the Mission to help underprivileged children on Skid Row.
"Foot Locker is honored to once again be part of the Fred Jordan Mission's Back-to-School Giveaway program," said Nick Grayston, president of Foot Locker U.S. "This marks the 18th year in which we are donating thousands of pairs of athletic shoes and socks to provide the children of the Los Angeles community with the necessities for the beginning of a new school year."
In addition to Foot Locker, the Mission receives products for this event from over 25 companies nationwide, including: Arrowhead Water, Avery Dennison, Coca-Cola, Disney, Edgewood Press, Feed the Children, Two for One, Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S), Kids Kaps, Lucky Brand Jeans, Sam's Club, Sears, The Sikh Community of Los Angeles, Wal-Mart, Edgewood Press, Feed the Children, Barbra Walden, Pureology, Children's Network, In-N-Out Burger, and Shelter Partnership.
The Fred Jordan Mission, open 365 days a year since 1944, feeds hundreds of hungry people and provides assistance for impoverished individuals and families. The Mission is a non-profit, faith-based, educational and relief organization emphasizing education, job training, and self-reliance.
