Providian National Bank Sells $500 Million of Asset Backed Certificates 


SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 18  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Providian Financial
Corporation  today announced that Providian National Bank has completed the sale
of $500 million of three-year Series 2003-A floating rate Class A asset backed
certificates issued by the Providian Gateway Master Trust.

The Providian Gateway Master Trust certificates described above have not been
and will not be registered under the Securities Act of 1933 or any state
securities law and may not be offered or sold in the United States absent
registration or an applicable exemption from registration requirements.
