NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingersoll-Rand plc (NYSE: IR) will replace Pactiv Corp. (NYSE: PTV) in the S&P 500 index after the close of trading on Tuesday, November 16.  Pactiv is being acquired by Reynolds Group Holding Ltd. in a deal expected to close on or about that date, pending final approvals.

Ingersoll-Rand engages in the design, manufacture, sale, and service of a portfolio of industrial and commercial products. Headquartered in Swords, Ireland, the company will be added to the S&P 500 GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) Industrial Machinery Sub-Industry index.
