net.com Short-listed for The World Communications Awards 2004
QServ Selected in the Best Technology Foresight Category for Its
Industry-leading Quality of Service Capabilities
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In recognition of their
innovative QServ technology, net.com (NYSE:NWK) today announced that it has
been short-listed for the World Communications Awards 2004 in the category of
Best Technology Foresight. QServ offers a deployable implementation of the
TR-059 standard for delivering Quality of Service (QoS) over plain old DSL
(PODSL). With nearly 100M DSL lines in the world today, TR-059 provides a
framework for delivering new revenue generating services like video and voice
over IP using an existing infrastructure. QServ technology, available on
net.com's SCREAM platform, is an integral part of this framework, simplifying
the simultaneous delivery of multiple services with committed service level
guarantees.
The World Communication Awards are widely recognized as one of the
telecommunications industry's foremost industry accolades. Since its inception
in 1999, a mere 22 companies have been short listed in the Best Technology
Foresight category from a total of 123 nominations. The winners of this year's
award will be announced at an awards ceremony in London, England, on October
11, 2004.
"It's an honor to be short listed for the prestigious World Communications
Awards," said Bert Whyte, president and CEO of net.com. "This selection is a
ringing endorsement of the market value that net.com's SCREAM/QServ technology
can offer carriers that want to deliver higher-value, higher-margin,
triple-play services over their existing DSL networks."
SCREAM, a next generation broadband remote access server (BRAS) with IP edge
routing and ATM switching functionality, provides advanced QoS capabilities for
IP traffic on ATM access networks. Availability of this QoS technology is
critical in enabling carriers to migrate from offering "best-effort" internet
access to high priority voice, video and data services.
