Northern Valley Communications Selects net.com to Enable IP Video
Solution
High Performance Solution for Advanced Video Service Delivery
FREMONT, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northern Valley
Communications (NVC) announced today the selection of net.com's (NYSE:NWK)
SCREAM broadband service delivery platform as part of a video on demand
deployment. The service will stream MPEG-2 encoded content selected by users
through an on-demand service selection portal and will allow them to watch
content in real time.
net.com is providing the SCREAM service delivery platform, a next generation
broadband remote access server (BRAS) designed to deliver advanced quality of
service (QoS) required for delivering the triple play of voice, video and data
services over IP. SCREAM also provides the subscriber management functionality
required for basic broadband Internet access.
The initial deployment will contain the SCREAM100 platform. The SCREAM100 is a
fully redundant ATM switch, IP router and BRAS designed for cost-conscious
service providers needing a flexible platform for service delivery. The SCREAM
product will be deployed in conjunction with a third party video on demand
solution.
"Northern Valley is focused on delivering advanced services to our
subscribers," said James Groft, CEO of NVC. "After extensive evaluation, NVC
selected the net.com platform because it enables a powerful video on demand
service that gives Northern Valley a competitive edge in the market."
At the Telco TV industry event in November of 2003, Northern Valley
Communications commented that most ILECs will offer some form of video in the
future or be at a competitive disadvantage.
net.com performed extensive interoperability testing to ensure a quality
solution for Northern Valley. The solution is ideally suited to support
IP-based streaming video over ATM-based DSL network infrastructures common with
carriers today. net.com's SCREAM platform, with QServ technology, enforces IP
QoS over ATM-based DSL access networks to ensure smooth video delivery for
subscribers.
