Mykrolis Corporation Acquires Bentec Scientific, LLC Mykrolis Expands Its Line of Consumable Products for CMP Applications With Innovative PVA Brush Roller Solutions BILLERICA, Mass., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mykrolis Corporation (NYSE:MYK), a leading supplier of components and subsystems to the semiconductor industry, announced today it acquired the business and assets of Bentec Scientific, LLC, a California-based, privately held manufacturer of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based components used in semiconductor manufacturing. Mykrolis was previously an exclusive worldwide distributor of Bentec's products, which are currently sold by Mykrolis under the Planarcore(TM) brand name. "This acquisition expands our consumable product line and our exposure to one of the more rapidly growing segments of our market," said C. William Zadel, chairman and chief executive officer. "As Bentec's exclusive distributor we have had excellent market acceptance for this innovative product, especially among our customers in Asia and Japan. As such, we believe this acquisition is a key addition to our technology portfolio and will allow us to leverage our infrastructure in this area," Zadel said. The Planarcore(TM) products are used in post-CMP (chemical mechanical planarization) and substrate cleaning, which are critical parts of the manufacturing process for advanced semiconductors and microelectronics. Featuring a unique molded in place PVA construction on a disposable core that delivers process and product stability, the Planarcore raises the performance standard for post-CMP cleaning. Planarcore(TM) has been shown to reduce tool downtime and decrease defect rates on the wafer, establishing a highly beneficial cost of ownership for the customer. Briant Benson, president of Bentec Scientific, commented, "I anticipate an excellent relationship with Mykrolis and am confident that together we can continue to deliver process solutions for CMP applications that improve the yields of our customers." Mykrolis is a leading supplier of CMP consumable filtration products, which are marketed under its Planargard(R), Planarcap(TM), Solaris(R), and Processgard(R) brands. These products are used to filter defect-causing particles from slurries in the CMP process, an increasingly favored means of planarizing the metal and dielectric layers of semiconductors with line widths of 0.18 (mu)m or less. The use of CMP is expected to grow dramatically as linewidths are reduced, the number of wiring layers increase, and the use of copper continues to expand.
