News Article Concerning M&I Dividend Policy Is Incorrect

M&I Dividend Rate Remains Unchanged at $1.24 Per Year 


MILWAUKEE, Dec. 31  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE:MI) (M&I) announced today that an article published in the Wall Street Journal Sunday edition on December 30, 2007, contained incorrect information about M&I's dividend policy.  The article contained a table captioned "Dividend Diet" which showed M&I's regular cash dividend going from $1.24 per year to zero.  This is incorrect.  In fact, M&I's current dividend rate remains unchanged at $1.24 per year.  In addition, M&I has increased its dividend each year for the past 35 years and, with a tangible capital ratio of approximately 9.4% at year-end, M&I has one of the strongest capital positions in the banking industry.
