The May Department Stores Company Announces Expansion of Hecht's Into the Lord &
Taylor Location at White Marsh Mall
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The May Department Stores Company
announced today that it will expand its Hecht's store at White Marsh Mall into a
portion of the space currently occupied by Lord & Taylor. Hecht's will relocate
its Home merchandise to this new location.
The Lord & Taylor store is expected to close April 3.
Following the close, the first floor interior of the former Lord & Taylor space
will be completely remodeled. In the nearly 60,000 square feet of retail space,
Hecht's will significantly expand its offering of Home merchandise, including
dinnerware, home textiles, small electrics, cookware, furniture and mattresses.
In addition, the exterior entrances to the store will be reworked.
Remodeling of the former Lord & Taylor store is expected to begin in August 2004
and should be completed by spring 2005. Following opening of the new Home
store,the current Hecht's store also will be remodeled, with work being
completed in spring 2006.
The White Marsh Mall store is one of 32 Lord & Taylor stores May announced it
intends to divest.
The Hecht's/Strawbridge's division of The May Department Stores Company operates
80 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia.
The May Department Stores Company currently operates 443 department stores under
the names of Lord & Taylor, Famous-Barr, Filene's, Foley's, Hecht's, Kaufmann's,
L.S. Ayres, Meier & Frank, Robinsons-May, Strawbridge's, and The Jones Store, as
well as 210 David's Bridal stores, 462 After Hours Formalwear stores, and 10
Priscilla of Boston stores in its Bridal Group. May operates in 46 states, the
District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
