Krispy Kreme to Bring Packaged Snacks to Convenience Stores

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc., which earlier this week revealed it would be acquired by a European investment fund, said Friday it will bring packaged sweets to convenience stores in the U.S.

The Winston-Salem, N.C.-maker of hot glazed doughnuts said it will bring the packaged items to stores through a partnership with distributor TSW Foods LLC. Many of the sweets—honey buns, single-serve pies and "snack bags"—are to be differentiated by its original glaze flavor.

"TSW Foods will act as our master distributor to develop a national-distribution network in the convenience-store class of trade with drug, club and dollar stores to follow," said Mark LaBrecque, vice president, domestic marketing, licensing and consumer packaged goods, for Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme already has some products available at convenience stores nationwide.

On Monday, Krispy Kreme said JAB Holding Co., which has a quickly expanding stable of famous brands ranging from Caribou Coffee to Jimmy Choo shoes to Durex condoms, had agreed to acquire the doughnut maker for about $1.35 billion. JAB will take Krispy Kreme private.

Shares, up 21% so far this month, were inactive premarket.
