"Achievement Series is a Scantron-powered test engine with a content-neutral
environment that allows educators to create and deploy their own exams and
quizzes as well as to easily incorporate content provided by third-party
publishers," said Tim Loomer, president of Scantron's Testing and Assessment
division. "We have built our business and reputation on providing accurate and
reliable test delivery and scoring solutions, and this system extends our
commitment in this area."
To become the standard testing platform in the market, Scantron is in the
process of securing alliances with some of the top companies in the education
market, such as leading data warehouse companies, learning resource
organizations and content providers. In doing so, the company and its partners
can now offer school districts an integrated solution for implementing
assessment programs that are aligned to state standards along with real-time
reporting capabilities that support data driven instruction.
Achievement Series Features and Benefits
Aligned: The Achievement Series platform can easily align resources to all of
the established state standards. The feature allows educators to quickly
determine which items from Scantron's bank of more than 15,000 test questions or
other such content of their own choosing are aligned to a specific state
standard.
Collaborative: Educators can meet online through Achievement Series to develop
and review individual items or tests, thus leveraging the expertise of the
entire staff. Interested parties can also access and oversee the complete item
lifecycle-- from draft and deployment to measurement and retirement.
Flexible: Achievement Series enables educators to deliver, score and manage
test data from both online and paper test administration. The platform also
accepts scanned data while still allowing school districts to take advantage of
all the available collaboration and reporting functions.
Innovative: Students using Achievement Series will have access to virtual
learning tools such as a calculator, ruler, compass and protractor on an
item-by-item basis. Similar to paper-based tests, students can mark out
questions and return to them later, or look ahead to answer the questions they
know. Teachers can also use alerts for timed tests.
Timely: Achievement Series provides real-time resultsto give educators the
information they need to intervene and direct learning in the classroom. School
officials can also report results in an aggregated format according to state
standards as well as in a disaggregated data layout to meet specific
accountability demands specified by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
Achievement Series complements Scantron's Performance Series(TM), a
computer-adaptive, Web-based assessment, to give educators a complete solution
to diagnose academic strengths and weaknesses, direct instruction to maximize
student achievement and deliver and manage test data. A recent study shows a
strong correlation between student performance on the Performance Series
assessment and their performance on state tests.
