-- AT&T Inc.'s (T) DirecTV said its Spaceway-1 satellite "suffered a major anomaly" causing battery damage, and warned that "battery cells could burst," CNBC reported. The satellite is operated by Intelsat SA (I) and was built by Boeing Co. (BA).
-- DirecTV is seeking permission from the Federal Communications Commission to remove the satellite from orbit, CNBC reported.
-- Boeing told CNBC that the issue "occurred in the course of beyond-contract-life operation after a collection of events that have a very low likelihood of occurring on other satellites." AT&T said the satellite will be replaced and the company doesn't expect the problem to affect service, CNBC reported.
