Health Net, Inc. today announced its participation in Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s “10,000 Strong” veterans hiring initiative, which was officially launched on June 9, 2014.

“Our commitment to those who serve and their families does not end when they leave the service,” said Steve Tough, president of Government Programs for Health Net. “We remain focused on and committed to the well-being and integration of our veterans, and that includes gainful employment. Health Net has a long history and sound record of hiring veterans, and we value the characteristics veterans have cultivated through their service – leadership, integrity and a strong sense of mission.”

Health Net’s partnership with 10,000 Strong, which includes participation in multiple veteran-focused job fairs and employment workshops, aligns with its existing partnerships with:

  • Joining Forces, the White House’s comprehensive national initiative mobilizing all sectors of society to ensure veterans, service members and military families have the opportunities, resources and support they have earned; and
  • Hero Health Hire, a coalition of health care companies dedicated to offering meaningful employment opportunities to the nation’s disabled veterans and providing the support they need to succeed.

Additionally, in 2012 Health Net launched its own Veteran and Military Spouse Employment initiative, a progressive plan to recruit, hire, train and retain veterans and military spouses in Health Net’s workforce.

“Health Net is one of the biggest Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the city of Los Angeles,” said Tough. “We are proud to call Los Angeles ‘home,’ and we are excited to participate in Mayor Garcetti’s worthy initiative.”

Mayor Garcetti’s 10,000 Strong initiative complements Health Net’s strategic initiative to increase its hiring of veterans and spouses 10 percent by 2015, promote and participate in veteran recruitment opportunities, and continue to develop relationships with veteran and military organizations to foster employment opportunities.
