IDG's Computerworld Names GTECH Corporation to 11th Annual List
of Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT)
WEST GREENWICH, R.I., June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For the third year in
a row, GTECH Holdings Corporation (NYSE:GTK) announced that IDG's
Computerworld, the "Voice of IT Management," has selected the Company as one of
the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. This honor
is part of the weekly IT publication's 11th annual Best Places to Work in IT
survey, which was published in the June 14, 2004, issue and online at
Computerworld.com. Of the 100 companies selected, GTECH ranked 48, overall.
Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has
ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a
comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as
benefits, diversity, career development, training, and retention. In addition,
this year Computerworld surveyed nearly 17,000 IT workers for the list, and
their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.
"Once again, we are delighted that Computerworld has recognized GTECH as an
ideal place to work for today's top IT professionals," said GTECH President and
CEO W. Bruce Turner. "Technology plays an important and strategic role within
our organization, and we make it a priority to provide growth opportunities and
challenges to sustain a culture of innovation. It is our experience that when
employees are satisfied, performance is enhanced, and greater customer
satisfaction results."
GTECH was ranked among the top 50 companies in six out of the 11 categories,
including number 19 in the survey's Training Days per IT Employee category and
number 30 in the IT Employee Turnover category.
"We recognize that before we can provide effective solutions to customers, we
must first have an innovative IT and value-based development culture within our
own company," said GTECH Vice President of Research and Development Richard
Koppel. "Every day, we live the IT product and service-based model that is
also critical for our customers' success: we provide the right environment for
our IT staff to embrace new technologies and to further their learning in
support of GTECH's vision. By offering our staff challenging career
opportunities, the Company's operations run more efficiently and effectively,
and we are able to entice and retain skilled IT talent."
Over the last 23 years, GTECH has developed a variety of training programs and
benefits to attract and retain the most talented IT employees. From tuition
reimbursement to an in-house training and development center, GTECH's learning
development and training mission is to create global competence within the
Company to build the leadership and talent required for future business growth
and current business needs.
"This award is a testament to GTECH's commitment to IT professionals," said
GTECH Senior Vice President of Human Resources Kathy McKeough. "We make every
effort to provide a challenging and professionally stimulating work environment
to all of our employees. Programs such as on-site training, rotational
assignments, and individual career development contribute to making GTECH one
of the best places to work in the industry. GTECH believes an investment in
its employees is a direct investment in the Company's future."
"We were tremendously gratified by the reader response to our 'Best Places to
Work' survey this year, which was 30% higher and represents the views of nearly
17,000 technology professionals," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of
Computerworld. "The most desired benefits have remained consistent in recent
years. IT pros still want access to leading-edge technologies, training, and
flexible work schedules. But our Best Place companies often go beyond those
measures to provide much deeper levels of job fulfillment."
Other companies that Computerworld ranked among the Best Places to Work include
CDW Corporation, Verizon Wireless, Ford Motor Co., and MasterCard
