Green Mountain Power (NYSE:GMP) was named today "Large
Company Leader of the Year" by Vermont Businesses for Social
Responsibility (VBSR). The award recognizes companies for their
sustained commitment to socially responsible business practices.
In announcing the award, VBSR commended Green Mountain Power for
issuing its report on social responsibility using the Global Reporting
Initiative guidelines, one of only a handful of companies in Vermont
and the first utility in Vermont to do so.
"This is a remarkable accomplishment that each and every one of us
at Green Mountain Power is proud of. It confirms that we have made
significant progress in our efforts to run our business in a way that
is environmentally, socially and economically responsible," said Chris
Dutton, president and chief executive officer of Green Mountain Power.
"Our employees have worked very hard to transform this company into a
high performing enterprise that holds strong environmental and
corporate responsibility values and I am happy to see them
recognized."
Green Mountain Power's Corporate Responsibility Report describes
the environmental, social and financial dimensions of its operations.
"Publishing a corporate responsibility report is an important way to
communicate transparently about where we have performed well and where

Company's progress towards sustainability."

Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) was founded in
1990 by a group of businesspeople who believed businesses have as much
responsibility to workers, communities and the environment as they do
to being financially successful. VBSR was started to pioneer a new
focus for business: "the multiple bottom line." VBSR is one of the
largest regional socially responsible business organizations in the
US, even though it represents a small state.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) uses a multi-stakeholder
process to develop and disseminate globally applicable Sustainability
Reporting Guidelines. The Guidelines were created for voluntary use by
organizations for reporting on the economic, environmental and social
dimensions of their activities, products and services. GRI is a
collaborator of the United Nations Environment Program and works in
cooperation with the UN Global Compact.
