Greif Senior Vice President - Europe Trevor Armstrong Passes Away



DELAWARE, Ohio, Nov. 19  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trevor Armstrong, senior
vice president - Europe for Greif, Inc. (NYSE: GEF; GEF.B) died today during a
visit to Greif's Russian operations.  Armstrong was 55.

"We are tremendously shocked and saddened by Trevor's passing," said Michael
Gasser, chairman and chief executive officer of Greif. "Trevor was a dynamic
individual and a great asset to our management team.

"Our heartfelt sympathy goes to his family as well as his staff."

Until a successor is named, Greif President and Chief Operating Officer Bill
Sparks will assume Trevor's responsibilities in Europe.

Armstrong started his career as a management cadet with CSR Ltd in Australia in
1966 and was group vice president for Asia Pacific for packaging company Van
Leer at the time Greif acquired the company.  He also held management positions
at Comalco (Aluminum) Ltd., O'Brien Glass Industries, and BTR Nylex. When he
joined Greif, he became strategic business unit manager and vice president of
Asia Pacific; during this period, he presided over the construction of Greif's
second plant in China at Taicang.  In 2003, Trevor relocated to Amsterdam and
became SBU manager - Europe. He was appointed senior vice president - Europe on
Nov. 1, 2004.
