Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL)(NYSE:FSL.B) is
showcasing an array of advanced applications and platforms for the
automotive community at the annual Telematics Update Show, May 23-24,
2006 in Detroit.
The automotive embedded processor leader is unveiling
semiconductor products, reference designs and ecosystem tools at
Telematics Update that enable developers to work smarter and faster in
designing next-generation embedded systems. Freescale's live
demonstrations will showcase infotainment, navigation, wireless
technologies, mobile multimedia and more.
Freescale's Media5200 Development System provides automotive tier
one manufacturers and OEMs with an optimal platform for rapid
development of new multimedia and Infotainment product applications
and solutions. At the heart of the Media5200 Development System is the
MPC5200B, which contains a PowerPC(R) core, a cost-effective
high-performance processor targeted specifically to in-vehicle
infotainment and telematics systems.
"This is the biggest telematics event of the year and a golden
opportunity for us to learn from our peers and demonstrate our
platform expertise, which will lead to future telematics applications
for the automotive industry," said Anand Ramamoorthy, general manager
for Freescale's Infotainment, Multimedia and Telematics Division. "One
of the critical issues we'll be discussing is the convergence of
consumer applications into the automotive space and how this will
impact automakers in future model years."
What's New from Freescale at Telematics Update
Freescale is showcasing several embedded processing products and
platforms at the show including:
-- Media5200
-- MobileGT(TM) platform partners running new products and
applications
-- 3D map technology
-- Advanced hardware accelerated graphics
-- Live TV
-- Voice & video conferencing
-- Open source multimedia
Freescale Demonstrates Embedded Innovations
Freescale will host more than a dozen technology demonstrations,
all running on the Media5200 platform, at its booth and in partners'
pavilions:
-- 3DVU will demonstrate its patented Visual Map(TM) technology
showing aerial imagery and terrain elevation in a 3D
perspective for in car navigation systems.
-- ALT Software will provide a demonstration of its 3D and
enhanced 2D OpenGL graphics driver for the Green Hills
INTEGRITY, Wind River VxWorks, and QNX Neutrino real-time
operating systems.
-- Genesi will present its EFIKA MPC5200B-based solution running
the Linux(R) operating system and its HAL/OF firmware
featuring out-of-the-box support for high-definition graphics,
state-of-the-art OpenGL 2.0 3D support, voice- and
video-over-IP support.
-- Green Hills will demonstrate its high-reliability 2D/3D
navigation package built with Alt Software's OpenGL running on
royalty-free INTEGRITY real-time operating system that
provides fail-safe memory and timing protection
-- Lectronix will exhibit its AFrame Software Architecture.
-- QNX will demonstrate its leading-edge support for the
Media5200 hardware platform, including full 2D/3D OpenGL ES
1.0 graphics capabilities used in advanced navigation
applications.
-- Tilcon will demonstrate its advanced graphics solution for car
infotainment and dashboard on the Media5200 as well as
Lectronix's AFrame reference design.
-- Wind River will demonstrate its Wind River Platform for
Automotive Devices: VxWorks operating system; Wind River
Workbench, and essential multimedia and connectivity
middleware, Datalight's FlashFX(R) Pro and Reliance(TM) flash
file system, Tilcon's graphics engine and library, ALT
Software 3D graphics and 3DVU's Visual Map technology.
