ComEd honors more than 1,900 company employees for dedication to keeping the power on and protecting public safety

In celebration of National Lineman Appreciation Day, ComEd salutes the men and women who work tirelessly, day-in and day-out, to provide safe and reliable energy service to customers across the region. As part of its appreciation efforts, the company is joining energy companies across the nation to encourage others to acknowledge these unsung heroes on social media by using the hashtag #thankalineman.

“Our dedicated field employees work in the most challenging of circumstance -- severe weather, on high risk projects, all hours of the day or night -- to insure our customers are safe, warm or cool, and secure,” said Anne Pramaggiore, President and CEO, ComEd. “From storm response to modernizing one of the largest grids in the United States, they are at the heart of all we do. I am deeply grateful for their service to our customers.”

ComEd has more than 1,900 employees, who are dedicated to operating and maintaining electric systems that serves nearly 4 million customers in northern Illinois. These workers serve as first responders in emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, often in challenging conditions, and on weekends and holidays to keep the power flowing for customers.

“Our field employees are on call 365 days ready and willing to respond whenever and wherever they’re needed,” said Terence R. Donnelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We are thankful for their continued commitment and honored to recognize their steadfast efforts.”

To honor the nation’s workers, a resolution was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives designating July 10, 2016, as National Lineman Appreciation Day. ComEd joins utility companies across the nation, including Exelon sister utilities Atlantic City Electric, BGE, PECO, Delmarva Power and Pepco, in honoring all utility workers – both on the lines and in the field.

Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC), the nation’s leading competitive energy provider, with approximately 10 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population.
