PECO Working to Restore Service Following Tuesday Evening Storms

75% of affected customers restored in less than 12 hours

A strong band of thunderstorms with severe lightning and damaging winds moved through the Philadelphia region Tuesday evening causing widespread damage and interrupting electric service to more than 260,000 PECO customers.

PECO crews worked through the night to assess damage to the system and restore service to more than 190,000 customers impacted by the storm. PECO has activated its emergency response organization, and enhanced staffing is in place in the company’s call center, dispatch centers and in the field to safely restore service as quickly as possible.

As of 8 a.m., Wednesday, approximately 70,000 customers remain without service. Specifically,

  • Bucks County = 15,000
  • Chester County = 27,800
  • Delaware County = 14,600
  • Montgomery County = 9,700
  • Philadelphia County = 1,420
  • York County = 600

PECO crews continue to assess damage on the system and estimated restoration times for customers remaining without service will be available as damage is fully assessed. PECO crews will continue to work around-the-clock to safely make repairs and restore service to customers.

As the potential for severe weather continues on Wednesday, PECO urges customers to stay safe and always stay away from storm damaged electrical equipment, especially downed power lines and tree limbs that my come into contact with power lines.

Customers experiencing any electric or natural gas issues should call the company at 1-800-841-4141. Customers also can report an outage at www.peco.com or by using PECO Smart Mobile On-the-Go, the company’s mobile enhanced website.
