Elk innovations are on display at the Florida Homebuilders Association's "2006 New Southern Home" -- a showcase home featuring the latest homebuilding technologies at the 28th Annual Southeast Builders Conference in Orlando, FL. The architects on the project chose Elk's Prestique(R) Grande(R) hybrid shingles to top off the house and CrossTimbers(TM) composite decking for the outdoor area. Tough enough to withstand the harsh Florida elements, these two product lines are a perfect fit for the New Southern Home. Technologies in both Elk's laminated shingles and composite decking allow for conservation of raw materials. Elk Prestique Grande hybrid shingles with the signature High Definition(R) look are made with a patented new VersaShield(R) XP(TM) headlap technology. In standard laminated asphalt shingle construction, the headlap and shingle are manufactured as one piece and made with fiberglass, asphalt and granules. The headlap portion is ultimately covered up when the shingles are installed. Elk's mission was to create a shingle that would conserve asphalt and granules in the headlap, while still providing protection against the elements. The result is a hybrid shingle product with a headlap made from a durable, non-asphaltic material that is UL(R) Class "A" fire-rated and Metro Dade approved. Combining recycled oak and sturdy polypropylene, Elk CrossTimbers decking is an extremely low maintenance decking product with no sealing and staining required -- even in the hot Florida sun. Elk's RailWays(TM) Traditional Series, a composite railing product made to look like classic, painted white wood completes the deck. "The New Southern Home, which is a component of the 2006 Southeast Building Conference, is the perfect place to display Elk's innovative building products," said J. Emmett Reed, CAE, Executive Vice President of the Florida Home Builders Association. "The 17,000 home building professionals attending SEBC will have the opportunity to tour the New Southern Home and see Elk's great products first hand." The New Southern Home began in 1988 to celebrate great architectural design and to showcase new technologies. The 2006 project is being built by MWA Builders and will be on display at the Southeast Building Conference at the Orange County Convention Center August 3-5, 2006. The home will be open to the public beginning August 6, 2006. For more information about the New Southern Home and Southeast Building Conference go to www.fhba.com or www.sebcshow.com.
