ENDESA (NYSE:ELE) has acquired 500 MW of VPP contracts in an
auction carried out by Electricite de France.
EDF has been putting these contracts out to tender since 2001,
when an EU resolution obliged the French utility to auction part of
its capacity in the market in order to comply with electricity
deregulation laws.
ENDESA has been successful in these kinds of auction since they
began in 2001.
In this latest operation, EDF put out to tender 901 MW of base
power and 242 MW of peak power, with delivery times of between three
months and three years.
This kind of capacity is very valuable to Endesa, as it reinforces
its position in France in terms of selling energy to its customer
portfolio as well as the active management of the optionality of these
contracts which allows it to take advantage of the changing prices in
the market place.
