Ohio University has been awarded a $43,500 grant for the
Dairy Lane Eco-House from Cinergy's Greenhouse Gas Fund which invests
in projects that support Cinergy's commitment to reduce its greenhouse
gas emissions to 5% below 2000 levels by 2010 and keep them at that
level through 2012.
Cinergy Corp. (NYSE:CIN) selected Ohio University for this award
because, according to John Stowell, Vice President for Federal
Legislative Affairs and Sustainability, "As an institution of higher
learning, Ohio University's Eco-House presents a tremendous
opportunity to promote greater awareness of the need for solutions to
the problems created by greenhouse gas emissions among our future
leaders."
The purpose of the Eco-House is to create a venue for showcasing
leading edge green technologies. The project is intended to educate
and encourage students, staff, faculty and the community about how to
apply these technologies to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas
emissions in a sustainable manner.
Ohio University established the Eco-House in the Spring of 2005.
Representatives from several disciplines and departments on campus, as
well as community members, local businesses and student organizations
were involved in the development of the project.
"We commend Ohio University on their exemplary vision of a green
and sustainable world and are pleased to both support and help develop
this project," said Rod Husk, Vice President of Cinergy Solutions, an
affiliate of Cinergy Corp.
Cinergy Solutions has enjoyed a long-term partnership with the
university. Working together with the university's facilities
management team, Cinergy Solutions has helped Ohio University to save
$2.5 million in utility costs annually to date and maintain utility
costs at 2002 levels despite rising energy costs and the addition of
over 350,000 square feet of new building space.
In addition to the Cinergy grant, the Eco-House received a grant
from the Ohio Department of Development Office of Energy Efficiency
this summer to fund the installation of a photo-voltaic array and
solar thermal system. These systems will significantly reduce the
Eco-House's dependence on fossil fuel sources for heat and power in
the residence.
Established in 1804, Ohio University is the oldest institution of
higher learning in the state. Located in the classic college town of
Athens, in southeastern Ohio, the University has earned a reputation

The Athens campus population of more than 19,000 includes students
