Independent Accountant 


SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 27  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bay View Capital
Corporation (NYSE:BVC) (the "Company") announced today that it has engaged
Grant Thornton LLP to furnish independent accountant services to the Company.
Grant Thornton LLP will audit the Company's consolidated financial statements
for the year ending December 31, 2004 and audit the effectiveness of the
Company's internal control over financial reporting as of December 31, 2004.
