                      Notification of Major Interest in Shares



The Company has been notified today by Amvescap plc that, as the result of a
recent conversion of unit trusts to investment companies with variable capital,
Amvescap plc has ceased to be interested in 9,337,222 ordinary shares of 10
pence each in the Company and no longer has a notifiable interest (within the
meaning of Section 199(2) of the Companies Act 1985) in ordinary shares of the
Company.



The Company has also been notified today that, as a result of the conversion
referred to above,  Invesco UK ICVC Series has a notifiable interest in
9,337,222 ordinary shares of 10 pence each in the Company and that Invesco
Perpetual Income Fund and Invesco Perpetual High Income Fund no longer have
notifiable interests in ordinary shares of the Company:
