AmSouth Bancorporation Board Declares Quarterly Dividend; Dividend Yield at 3.6 Percent

AmSouth Bancorporation (NYSE:ASO) announced today that
its Board of Directors has declared a regular quarterly dividend of
$.26 per common share, payable October 2, 2006, to shareholders of
record as of September 20, 2006. AmSouth's dividend yield as of July
19, 2006, was 3.6 percent.
   AmSouth holds Mergent's "Dividend Achiever" designation for its
record of increasing dividends for 35 consecutive years, an honor
accorded just 3 percent of U.S.-listed, dividend-paying publicly
