ACCO Brands Corporation (NYSE: ABD), a world leader in branded office products, was honored this week as one of “America’s Safest Companies for 2011” by EHS Today magazine, a leading publication for environmental, health and safety professionals.
“We are proud to receive this prestigious award that recognizes our unwavering commitment to employee health and safety,” said Chief Operating Officer Boris Elisman. “ACCO Brands has worked tirelessly to develop and implement plans and procedures that make our employees’ safety a top priority. This is reflected in the outstanding safety records achieved at all of our facilities in the U.S.”
ACCO Brands earned the award for 2011 based on significantly lower injury rates than industry norms, sound safety planning and proactive communication models geared toward protecting employee health.
To be considered one of America’s Safest Companies, companies must demonstrate support from management and employee involvement; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates lower than the average for their industries; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; good communication about the value of safety; and a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
This is the first time ACCO Brands will take home the EHS Today award. In addition, the company earned the 2011 Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ “Order of Distinction Award for Occupational Health and Safety Excellence” in the United Kingdom.
“ACCO Brands is committed to maintaining our leadership position in employee health and safety,” Elisman said. “We will continue to make proactive safety planning, communication and accident prevention a core part of our daily operations.”
