WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:WGRD), a leading
provider of Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions, today announced
the general availability of its new e-Series UTM platforms. The new
line of hardware increases performance, port density and security
functionality in the company's Firebox X Core and Peak products.
WatchGuard's Fireware Pro 8.3, the newest version of its advanced
appliance software, is also now available for small to mid-sized
businesses (SMBs). Fireware Pro allows anti-virus (AV) scanning on
HTTP traffic, extending AV protection to Web servers and clients. The
enhanced software also supports networking functionality that offers
greater security and flexibility.
The new e-Series Firebox X Core and Peak models offer additional
ports, and increased firewall and VPN performance. The Firebox X Peak
comes with eight Gigabit Ethernet ports, and performance and capacity
have been increased to provide up to 2.0 Gbps for firewall traffic and
600 Mbps for VPN traffic. The new Peak e-Series models come equipped
with Fireware Pro as the standard appliance software.
The Firebox X Core is available in four-port or eight-port
versions. This allows WatchGuard solutions to be used by small,
single-site networks; central sites that serve as branch office VPN or
mobile user VPN configurations; and for mid-sized organizations with
more demanding LAN infrastructure and VPN requirements. The new
Firebox X Core e-Series ships with Fireware, a streamlined version of
WatchGuard's appliance software, and is license key upgradeable to
Fireware Pro.
"Now shipping, WatchGuard's e-Series Firebox X Core and Peak
hardware platforms provide SMBs with the most comprehensive Unified
Threat Management solution available," said Allison Armstrong,
WatchGuard Director of Product Management. "By adding increased
functionality and performance, and more sophisticated Zero Day attack
protection, WatchGuard continues to address the real needs of today's
mid-sized businesses."
The new WatchGuard Firebox Core and Peak appliances have also been
redesigned to meet the stringent European Union RoHS and WEEE
environmental requirements required to sell new electronic hardware in
the EU.
