Verilink's OSMINE Converged Access Solution Enables the Delivery
of Competitive Managed T1 Bundled Services
Industry's First OSMINE DACS-to-IAD Last Mile Solution Allows ILECs to
Dramatically Reduce Network Costs and Simplify Service Provisioning
CENTENNIAL, Colo., March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Verlink Corporation
(NASDAQ:VRLK), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, today
announced the industry's first OSMINE-compliant converged access solution to
enable carriers to deliver managed bundled voice and data services to small and
mid-sized business (SMB) customers. The bundled solution, which includes the
XSP-100 SHARK(TM), a T1 integrated access device (IAD) and the ARCA-DACS
100(TM), a digital cross-connect system, provides a complete end-to-end access
solution to provision a new generation of T1 circuits as a managed service from
the carrier's central office to the customer's premise.
The OSMINE cerification is an important aspect of the bundled offering. The
completion of the Telcordia OSMINE services process allows ILECs to pre-qualify
the ordering, circuit engineering and provisioning of the service. This
flow-through integration process reduces provisioning intervals and associated
costs, and results in quicker turn-up of service for the carrier's end
customer.
"Business customers, both large and small, are looking for value in voice and
data services, and have found converged or bundled services to be a highly
attractive way to simplify IT and Telecom operations and reduce operational
costs," said Scott Clavenna, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading. "A manageable
IAD and DACS solution allows carriers to deliver competitively priced bundled
T1 voice and data services backed by strong service level agreements, which
addresses the need for affordability and reliability among business customers."
"The delivery of bundled voice and data services has traditionally been a
challenge for large, incumbent carriers given the operational complexities they
face," said Wayne Shakelford, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service for
Verilink. "With the OSMINE and NEBS compliance of the SHARK and ARCA-DACS,
combined with professional services provided by Verilink, a carrier is able to
overcome traditional deployment obstacles associated with circuit provisioning,
CPE installation, service turn-up and management."
The SHARK/ARCA-DACS solution is key to the delivery of one of the nation's
largest ILEC's managed, bundled T1 voice and data service offering for the SMB
market. At the customer premise, the XSP-100 SHARK enables the delivery of
voice, high-speed data and Internet access to end customers over a single
network connection, and is the industry's first OSMINE-certified and Network
Equipment Building Standard (NEBS) Level-3 compliant IAD. The SHARK IAD will
terminate up to 24 analog voice circuits, provides a digital T1 interface for
direct connection to a PBX, includes an auto-sensing 10/100 Base-T LAN port,
integrates a full-featured router, and provides CSU/DSU functionality. With the
capacity for up to four T1's of bandwidth, the SHARK can support up to 6 Mbps
of integrated voice and data traffic, and easily integrates with the carrier's
voice switch.
A scalable Digital Access and Cross-Connect System (DACS), the ARCA-DACS 100 is
ideally suited for grooming fractional T1s at the network access facility
allowing carriers to choose switching granularity from DS3-based down to
DS0-based, creating an all-in-one efficient and economical platform. The
ARCA-DACS 100 is OSMINE-certified and Network Equipment Building Standard
(NEBS) Level-3 compliant, which eliminates any single-point-of-failure issues
and meets all physical, power, and software requirements for installation in a
central office, remote node, or customer site.
