Verilink Introduces Enhanced eLink-300(TM) IAD With Dual T1
Capacity and Advanced Fail-Safe Technology
eLink-300 Enables Service Providers to Deliver Highly Competitive T1 Bundled
Voice and Data Services to Business Customers
CENTENNIAL, Colo., May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Verilink Corporation
(NASDAQ:VRLK), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, today
announced the release of an enhanced version of the eLink(TM)-300 model
Integrated Access Device (IAD). The new eLink-300 solution includes improved
bandwidth provisioning flexibility through the implementation of dual T1
uplinks, dial back-up capability as well as advanced fail-safe, self-test
capabilities to provide intelligent power surge detection and suppression on
FXS ports. These capabilities make the new eLink-300 a highly robust platform.
In response to demands from business customers requiring price competitive,
reliable and feature-rich services, carriers and service providers have turned
to managed bundled voice and data services as a means to deliver business
critical value-added services. A Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) device like
the eLink-300 IAD, which typically resides in a server room or telephony
equipment closet at the customer premise, connects the customer's voice and
data networks to a provider's WAN network via T1 interface to deliver highly
reliable bundled services over a single network connection. This offers an
attractive way to lower connectivity costs while expanding services to new or
existing customers.
"The eLink-300 meets the benchmark for quality, reliability, and value that our
carrier and service provider customers need to deliver profitable,
business-class bundled services in today's competitive market," said Sab
Gosal, Verilink's Vice President of Marketing. "Because voice quality and
dependability are of the utmost importance to enterprise customers, the eLink-
300 was designed to produce toll-quality voice over a high-speed T1 line while
at the same time offering scalability as a business grows. With new dual T1
capacity and fail-safe enhancements to protect against costly service
disruptions due to factors such as power surges and lightning strikes, carriers
can address the needs of larger-sized SMB customers as well as those that
require high-reliability and bandwidth beyond a single T1."
"As carriers and service providers develop their migration strategies toward
IP-based packet networks, one particular concern is maintaining and protecting
revenue streams from existing legacy TDM networks, and to continue offering
integrated voice, data, and high-speed Internet services over T1 circuits,"
said Keith Nissen, Senior Analyst with In-Stat Research. "The eLink platform,
now offered under the Verilink brand, is a well established solution and one of
the original IADs to address the TDM market. With the newly upgraded
capabilities of the eLink-300, carriers and service providers can support
today's high bandwidth-consuming customers with a proven technology and rich
feature set, while planning their long-term service strategy and an orderly
transition to next-generation services."
"For small to medium sized businesses, the cost-saving implications of
converged toll-quality voice and high-speed data/Internet access are
significant and being able to source both services from a single service
provider such as O1 Communications means customers get high-quality, reliable
business-class service and a great value through service bundling," said Brad
Jenkins, President of O1 Communications, a competitive service provider and one
of the earliest and most successful pioneers of all-digital networks in
California. "At O1 Communications, we use the eLink-300 as the service delivery
platform for our bundled T1 service, a competitive T1 bundled voice and data
service for businesses. The eLink-300 has a rich feature set that provides
business-class quality for our customers and value that matches the economic
objectives of O1 Communications."
Several carriers and service providers have adopted the eLink-300 as their
service delivery platform for converged voice and data services. The eLink-
300 is being deployed by BellSouth (http://www.bellsouth.com/), O1
Communications (http://www.o1.com/), Tel West
(http://www.telwestservices.com/), Big River Telecom
(http://www.bigrivertelephone.com/), Birch Telecom
(http://www.birchtelecom.com/) and a diverse range of service providers
including CLECs and independent telcos.
The eLink-300 Family
Verilink's eLink-300 IAD is a highly automated plug-and-play platform that
delivers integrated voice and data services over a shared T-1 or dual T-1
connection. With up to 24 FXS (or 8 FXO) ports, the eLink-300 AutoCAP
functionality handles all configuration, installation, and provisioning without
costly "truck rolls," automatically conveying significant operational savings
to service providers rolling-out integrated or bundled services to their
customers. Verilink's eLink-300 IADs consolidate the functionality of a channel
bank for integrating voice connections, an IP router for transporting data, a
CSU/DSU for terminating the T1 line or Frame Relay connection from the carrier,
a DHCP server for IP address management, and a firewall for LAN security. The
eLink-300 offers support for FXO and FXS ports and FT1.
