Traffic.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRFC),
the leading provider of personalized traffic information for drivers
coast-to-coast, today announced an agreement with the North Carolina
Department of Transportation (NCDOT) that provides for the installation
of digital roadside traffic sensors along expressways around the Raleigh
metropolitan area.
The Traffic.com Digital Sensor Network continuously collects accurate,
real-time traffic data and transmits it wirelessly to a proprietary
Traffic Information Management System (TIMS). The Traffic.com data will
be combined with NCDOT real-time data and incident and event-related
updates obtained by state-of-the-art monitoring by Traffic.com
operations center personnel. The resulting comprehensive traffic content
will be immediately distributed across media, Web and wireless platforms
and will be made available to North Carolina drivers. This traffic
information will include incident and accident reports, vehicle speeds,
congestion levels, and travel and delay times.
Raleigh is the 25th area to participate in
Traffic.com’s award-winning public-private
partnerships for the provision of digital traffic data services. The
planned sensor deployment will include the following Raleigh area
expressways: I-40, I-540, I-440, US 1, and Wade Ave.
“Cities like Raleigh that are experiencing
tremendous economic growth are faced with numerous issues related to
increasing traffic,” said David L. Jannetta,
president of Traffic.com. “Our proven
technology and partnership model will provide NCDOT with reliable,
accurate, and complete traffic information for agency planning and
provide Raleigh drivers with crucial real-time traffic alerts when and
where they need it most.”
The Raleigh area sensors will be installed at no cost to the state or
local government agencies. Traffic.com pays for the construction,
operational costs, and ongoing maintenance of the sensors, and also
reinvests a portion of the revenue to expand the system. Traffic.com
plans to install these sensors by this time next year.
Traffic.com assists drivers avoid traffic across the U.S. by delivering
free, real-time, traffic services online at www.traffic.com,
on-demand with a toll free traffic hotline 1-866-MY-TRAFC, and on-the-go

designed for access by web-enabled cell phone and mobile device.
