Proxim Wireless Corporation, a global provider of
broadband wireless equipment and wholly-owned subsidiary of Terabeam,
Inc. (NASDAQ: TRBM), today announced that its Tsunami(R).GX high-speed
microwave point-to-point systems have been deployed to connect 15
facilities within the Buffalo Trails Public Schools system in Alberta,
Canada. Together with seven additional facilities previously connected
using Proxim products, Buffalo Trails now has a wholly owned wide-area
network with the performance of fiber at a fraction of the cost,
augmenting network resources provided by the Alberta SuperNet. The
project was overseen and the network designed and installed by Vista
Telecom Networks, a Proxim Platinum Partner and one of only five
systems integrators authorized to work with the SuperNet backbone.
Alberta SuperNet is a high-speed network combining fiber-optic and
wireless technologies to link approximately 4,200 provincial
government facilities, schools, health care facilities, and libraries
in 429 Alberta communities. Buffalo Trail Public Schools has taken
advantage of the SuperNet through direct connections at each facility,
but has also sought to deploy a fully redundant, self-sufficient
network to ensure 100% network uptime for critical applications
including full-scale video conferencing for distance learning over
several miles. Vista proposed products from the Proxim Wireless
Tsunami.GX series of high-speed microwave point-to-point radio
systems, basing its recommendation on several key factors.
According to Doug Wade, Vice President of Business Development at
Vista Telecom, "Proxim's Tsunami.GX is unmatched in the market for its
combination of carrier-class full-duplex performance and an attractive
price point. Plus it provides us with the flexibility of indoor-only
or indoor-outdoor installation to overcome a wide range of terrain and
facility challenges and achieve a lower total cost of ownership. Given
Buffalo Trails' sophisticated requirements and a wide range of
challenges, Vista's capabilities and in-house project management
allowed us to integrate all aspects of the project on time and under
budget."
"Proxim delivers the benefits of broadband wireless technologies
to education customers worldwide, and we are pleased to support
Buffalo Trails," said Amit Malhotra, Vice President, Marketing, Proxim
Wireless. "Our broad portfolio of products - including Wireless
Backhaul, WiMAX, and Wi-Fi Mesh - enables educational institutions,
enterprises, governments, and service providers to support a wide
variety of network needs without wires."
