TriPath Imaging, Inc. Announces Promotions of Johnny D. Powers, Ph.D. to President, TriPath Oncology and James D. Petrilla to S

BURLINGTON, N.C., July 19  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TriPath Imaging, Inc. (NASDAQ:TPTH), announced today that Johnny D. Powers, Ph.D., the Company's Senior Vice President and General Manager, TriPath Oncology has been promoted to President, TriPath Oncology and that James D. Petrilla, the Company's Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Customer Training, has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations. Ray W. Swanson has resigned his position as Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations and will leave the Company to pursue other interests.

Dr. Powers will continue to lead the TriPath Oncology business unit and will also assume leadership of the Company's manufacturing and quality assurance functions. He joined TriPath Imaging in October 2001 upon appointment as Vice President of Manufacturing Operations. In July 2002, he was promoted to Senior Vice President and General Manager, TriPath Oncology, the Company's wholly-owned subsidiary that is developing molecular diagnostic products for cancers of the cervix, breast, ovary and prostate.  Prior to joining TriPath Imaging, Dr. Powers served as Vice President and General Manager of Manufacturing Operations, Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Strategic Marketing, and Vice President of Molecular Diagnostic Systems Business Unit at Ventana Medical Systems, Inc.

In his new role, Mr. Petrilla will assume leadership of the Company's cervical cancer screening business. Mr. Petrilla joined the Company in January 2006 as Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Customer Training. Prior to joining TriPath Imaging, Mr. Petrilla served as President and CEO of StemCo Biomedical, Inc., Vice President and General Manager of the Biovail Corporation, and Vice President, Global Brand Champion (Chairman of Full Development Team), General Manager (VP) Anti-Virals Europe, Vice President, National Accounts, and Vice President, Managed Care Sales-East Area at the Bristol-Meyers Squibb Company. Mr. Petrilla is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.
