Total Logistics Unit Awarded Multi-Year Contract by Johnson
Controls, Inc.
MILWAUKEE, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Total Logistics, Inc.
(NASDAQ:TLCX) announced today the award of a multi-year contract to provide
transportation services to Johnson Controls, Inc. in the Southeastern region of
the U.S. Logistic services will be provided by ITLX, a certified Minority
Business Enterprise (MBE) in which the Company holds a substantial minority
ownership interest.
The agreement between ITLX and Johnson Controls, Inc. Automotive Systems Group
calls for ITLX to deliver automotive batteries from a Johnson Controls
manufacturing facility to customer locations throughout the Southeast. ITLX
will utilize an initial fleet of 25-30 tractors for this project and will
deliver to both retail locations and distribution centers. The Company will
also provide reverse logistics services, retrieving used products and
delivering them to recycling centers.
The fleet will operate between the North Carolina plant and local retailers,
including Wal-Mart and Sears. Described as a "high touch" service, the direct
store deliveries will include moving product directly into the retail store
locations, lowering the burden on store personnel to handle these heavy
products.
William T. Donovan, President & CEO, commented, "We are pleased with the
development of ITLX's business and view this award as a major opportunity for
the Company. We invested in ITLX because of the strength of its owner manager
and the view we were backing a winner. ITLX provides us with a unique business
opportunity to bring a certified MBE service capability to the markets we
serve. We have full confidence in ITLX and its ability to provide high value,
dependable service to Johnson Controls and look forward to the further
development of this important relationship."
"This agreement enables us to continue to service our aftermarket battery
customers competitively while giving us flexibility, with options for logistics
growth," says Rodger Hall, Vice President Global Procurement, Johnson Controls
Battery Division. "We believe in the ITLX management team and also know that
TLC will provide support if additional resources are required."
