SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Symmetricom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), a worldwide leader in precision time and frequency technologies, today announced the launch and availability of the release 6.2 enhancement of its SSU 2000, a robust and fully manageable system that generates and distributes precise synchronization signals for both traditional SONET/SDH networks and modern Ethernet/IP networks. This latest release was designed to improve network management security and dramatically increase system capacity for networks using the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol.

Important new capabilities with the SSU 2000 release 6.2 include:

The SSU 2000 release 6.2 integrates functional modules into a flexible, fully redundant system. Designed with an intelligent architecture, each SSU module has an integrated CPU running the system software. This approach has allowed the SSU 2000 platform to remain on the forefront with new capabilities as networks evolve from TDM (SONET and SDH) to packet-based transport using NTP, PTP and SyncE. Â Applications for the SSU 2000 include: Synchronization Supply Unit (SSU), Primary Reference Source (PRS), Building Integrated TimingSupply (BITS) and Subtending Timing Signal Generator. The product is Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) certified meeting safety and reliability standards and is also available in an ETSI-standard configuration.
