-- Temperature-compensated and voltage-controlled crystal
oscillator with Stratum 3 stability
-- Extremely precise GPS 30.72 MHz clock synchronization
-- GPS clock module can free run to maintain synchronization
-- Front panel RS-232 DB9 connector & BNC connector
-- AMC.0 Module Management Subsystem (IPMI v1.5)
Today at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, California,
SBS Technologies(R), (NASDAQ: SBSE), a leading designer and
manufacturer of modular communication solutions, announced the
expansion of its telecommunications product line with an AdvancedMC
GPS module for AdvancedTCA(R) and other communications systems. The
Telum GPSTC-AMC is an AdvancedMC module that uses a GPS (Global
Positioning System) clock to synchronize offsite network devices with
other network devices.
Typically, WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) Base Stations do not have physical
access to the telecom network clocks that allow synchronization with
other devices on a given network. The Telum GPSTC-AMC module solves
the problem of offsite clock synchronization by using a GPS satellite
network, which provides extremely precise clock synchronization for
WiMAX Base Stations without restricting their placement.
"We are excited about delivering a GPS-based AdvancedMC Module to
the telecommunications market. This module allows equipment to derive
their clock synchronization from GPS satellite networks and is a key
enabler to the adoption of modular architectures for use in the next
generation of communications equipment", said Rubin Dhillon, VP of
Communications and Enterprise for SBS Technologies.
The Telum GPSTC-AMC provides a highly stable 30.72 MHz clock
output that is phase aligned to GPS-derived 1 pulse per second (PPS)
input providing extremely precise, highly reliable GPS clock
synchronization. This AdvancedMC module also uses a
temperature-compensated voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (TCVCXO)
with a 30.72 MHz center frequency and a minimum Stratum 3 stability of
0.37 parts per million (PPM).
With its very low-jitter capability, the onboard crystal
oscillator enables the GPSTC-AMC's microprocessor to filter out the
short-term jitter that often affects GPS derived 1 PPS clocks while
still allowing the microprocessor to take advantage of the
oscillator's long term precision. Phased error detection allows the
GPS clock module to free run even if GPS input is lost.
An onboard Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI)
subsystem monitors board voltage and temperature conditions, maintains
system status, and manages hot swap operation. In accordance with the
AMC.0 specification, the Telum GPSTC-AMC is hot swap capable and field
replaceable.
Price and Availability:
GPSTC-AMC pricing starts at US$950 and is available now.
