Lightweight Rugged Operating Computer's small size and
full-featured capability is ideal for the tight spaces typically
found in military vehicles
-- Lightweight rugged computer fits in the palm of your hand
-- Versatile system architecture based on standard PMC modules
-- Highly flexible computing and I/O options
-- Designed for extended temperature harsh vibration, shock, and
EMI environments
SBS Technologies(R) (NASDAQ:SBSE): Today, at the Association of
the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition, SBS
Technologies continued its role as an embedded defense market leader
by introducing a versatile Rugged Operating Computer (ROC) that
defines a new standard for deployable lightweight, compact vehicle
computers.
The ruggedized ROC vehicle computer is a powerful and compact PMC
computing system. Weighing less than six pounds and measuring less
than 100 cubic inches, the ROC fits well into the tight spaces usually
found in military vehicle applications. The ROC can be configured with
an Intel(R) or PowerPC(R) processor PMC and is the first in a new line
of general purpose vehicle computers, giving a true off-the-shelf
solution to the challenge of providing low-cost, high density
computing and I/O capabilities within an integrated avionics,
navtronics and vetronics application.
"The versatility of the PMC-based ROC provides high-performance
computing power in a small package, making it a tailored fit for many
military applications," said Dave Wessing, Vice President and General
Manager of SBS Technologies Government Group. "The small ROC is highly
configurable and adaptable to many military applications, making it a
perfect choice for UAVs and ground combat vehicles as well as troop
field use. Inside the box we can draw from our vast selection of PMC
modules to configure a custom product from COTS components, reducing
design costs and development time," continued Wessing.
The ROC chassis has a modular stacked PMC architecture, an
integrated 100 W power supply and EMI filter, and a solid state fast
Compact Flash disk with up to 128 GBytes of memory mounted on a PMC
carrier module. A wide variety of optional PMC processor modules and
discrete and analog I/O PMC modules provide flexible user control and
in-circuit programmability. Other control interfaces and I/O options,
including any standard SBS or 3rd party conduction-cooled PMCs, are
available upon request.
The ROC supports many embedded operating systems including
VxWorks(R), INTEGRITY(R), Windows(R) XP and Linux(R).
Price and Availability
Available now, pricing for one ROC System Enclosure, which
includes one system chassis, one power supply, and one single board
computer, starts at US$19,750. A two ROC System Enclosure, which
includes two system chassis, one power supply, one single board
computer, one 8 channel high-speed serial PMC, and one dual redundant
MIL-STD 1553 PMC, starts at US$44,500.
