FORT WORTH, Texas, April 21  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Philip E. Norwood,
Chairman of the Board of Summit Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ:SBIT) (SBI), has
announced the election of Robert P. (Pat) Evans, CPA to the holding company's
Board of Directors.

Prior to his election to the SBI board, Mr. Evans served on the Board of
Directors of Summit Bank, N.A.  He will continue on the Bank's Board of
Directors.

"Mr. Evans is a leading member of the Tarrant County business community and is
very knowledgeable of the market and brings significant financial expertise to
us," Mr. Norwood said.  "We look forward to Pat's participation in the
direction of the Company."

Mr. Evans is the Managing Partner of Sproles Woodard L.L.P., a regional public
accounting firm based in Fort Worth.

Mr. Evans currently serves as the Chair of the United Way of Metropolitan
Tarrant County, Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital, and the Davey O'Brien
Foundation.  He is also past-chair of the Harris Methodist Health System.  He
is on the boards of the First Methodist Church of Fort Worth Foundation, Inc.,
the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, and the Fort Worth Club.  He has served on
various other community boards.  He is active in the Rotary Club of Fort Worth,
having served as president during 1992-93, and is a past member of the Advisory
Board of the Hankamer School of Business of Baylor University.
