Ryan's Announces Appointment of New Director 


GREER, S.C., Oct. 28  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ryan's Restaurant Group, Inc.
(NASDAQ:RYAN) today announced that its Board of Directors has nominated Vivian
A. Wong as a new, independent director of the Company.  Ms. Wong will fill the
position vacated by James D. Cockman.  Ms. Wong will stand for election along
with six current directors, who are elected for a one-year term, at the
Company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders, which will be held on Monday, April
11, 2005.

"Ms. Wong's expertise in business will be a true asset to the Board and the
Company," said Charles. D. Way, Chairman.  "We are delighted that Ms. Wong has
accepted the Board's nomination."

Ms. Wong is currently Chairwoman of Pacific Gateway Capital Group, LLC, a
company specializing in bi-lateral US-China trade and investment.  She is also
involved in various real estate investments and the development of hotels,
shopping centers, retail centers and golf courses through the Southeast.
