G. Edwin McCranie Promoted to President and Chief Operating
Officer of Ryan's Restaurant Group, Inc. 


GREER, S.C., Aug. 4  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ryan's Restaurant Group, Inc.
(NASDAQ:RYAN) today announced the promotion of Gerald Edwin McCranie, its
Executive Vice President to the position of President and Chief Operating
Officer.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.  "Ryan's has grown to the size that a
division of responsibilities is needed, and we are lucky to have a person of
Mr. McCranie's caliber to fill the position of President and Chief Operating
Officer.  Mr. McCranie will concentrate on the day-to-day operations of the
Company, and I will focus on strategy and development."

Mr. McCranie joined Ryan's in 1986 as Director of Purchasing.  His
responsibilities have expanded since that time to include research and
development, meat quality control, marketing, advertising, real estate and food
cost control.  Mr. McCranie has been Executive Vice President and a member of
Ryan's Board of Directors since 1991.  He has been instrumental in helping the
Company grow and prosper.

Mr. McCranie is a graduate of Georgia Tech.  He served in the U.S. Navy for a
period of five years.  After leaving the service he worked for eight years with
IFH, a food distributor based in Hickory, NC as Vice President - Sales.
