Rainbow-Chrysalis' Luna SA Hardware Security Module Receives the 'NSS Approved'
Award From Leading Independent Security Testing Facility
NSS Reports Luna SA Performs Exceptionally Well; Makes 'Recommended List' for
Customers
OTTAWA, Canada, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rainbow Technologies, Inc. ,
a leading provider of digital content and transaction security for the Internet
and secure remote access solutions, today announced that its Luna SA hardware
security module (HSM) achieved a coveted "NSS Approved" Award from The NSS
Group, a leading independent security testing facility based in London, U.K.
The designation follows The NSS Group's independent evaluation of leading public
key infrastructure (PKI) hardware offerings. NSS Approved status means the Luna
SA "performed exceptionally well" and that NSS officials would be happy to
recommend the Luna SA to others.

Each HSM tested by The NSS Group was evaluated based on an in-depth technical
analysis of the products, its pricing strategy, and its ease of use. According
to Bob Walder, director of The NSS Group, "The Luna SA is a cost-effective
server with outstanding performance, scalability, resiliency and ease of use."
"What is attractive about the Luna SA's network-based approach is the ability to
share the HSM functionality between multiple client applications," Walder added.
"The Luna SA architecture provides an extremely secure environment for the
private keys under its protection."
With Luna SA, Rainbow-Chrysalis has, once again, demonstrated industry
leadership and delivered the first HSM with the capability to secure shared
access to critical encryption hardware over a TCP/IP network, which dramatically
lowers the total cost of HSM deployment and ownership. In addition, the Luna SA
maintains unparalleled levels of security for sensitive encryption data. Luna
SA can also be easily partitioned into multiple virtual HSMs to support
independent applications.
"The NSS Group's analysis was the most in-depth independent analysis ever
conducted on HSM products," said Randy Kun, vice president of marketing and
product line management, Rainbow-Chrysalis. "Gaining a seal of approval from
NSS validates the Luna SA for use in the world's most demanding security
environments and will help us further increase our share of the secure key
management market."
The Luna SA is the world's first HSM server and Rainbow-Chrysalis HSMs have
become the world's leading cryptographic hardware for key management used in the
most demanding security environments such as financial services, government, and
large enterprises. The full NSS review of the Luna SA can be downloaded from
